APPROVAL OF FAMILY REUNIFICATION WITH THIRD-COUNTRY NATIONALS
You may obtain family reunification as a citizen of a country outside the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA) only if you hold a temporary residence permit valid for one year, an EU Blue Card, a TIC permit, a “mobile TIC” permit, a long-term residence permit, or if you are a beneficiary of refugee status or subsidiary protection.
Who can you apply for family reunification for?
You may apply for family reunification for:
⦿ your spouse;
⦿ your children or your spouse’s minor children (including adopted children);
⦿ your first-degree relatives in the direct ascending line or those of your spouse (if they cannot support themselves and do not benefit from adequate family support in their country of origin);
⦿ your unmarried adult children or those of your spouse, if they are unable to support themselves due to medical reasons.
Unaccompanied minors who are beneficiaries of refugee status or subsidiary protection may also apply for family reunification for their first-degree relatives in the direct ascending line, their legal guardian, or, if these do not exist or cannot be identified, any other relative.
Approval of the family reunification application
The first step to bring your family to Romania is to obtain approval from the General Inspectorate for Immigration (IGI).
The application is resolved within a maximum period of 3 months from the date of submission.
You will receive the response in writing, and if the application has been approved, you must send the notification to your family members. They will present it to the diplomatic mission or consular office within 60 days from the date of issuance, together with the application for a long-stay visa for family reunification.
Next step: Long-stay visa for family reunification
The next step is obtaining the LONG-STAY VISA FOR FAMILY REUNIFICATION (symbol D/VF) at the Romanian diplomatic missions and consular offices in the country where your family members reside.
