Romania Digital Nomad Visa: Requirements & Legal Assistance

Romania allows foreign nationals who work remotely for companies registered outside Romania to apply for a long-stay visa as digital nomads.

Digital Nomad Visa Romania: Who can apply?

The Romanian Digital Nomad Visa is generally available to foreign nationals who are employed by a company registered outside Romania or own a company registered abroad, can perform their professional activity remotely using information and communication technology, and meet the financial and other requirements established by Romanian law.
One of the key requirements is financial. Applicants must demonstrate income of at least three times Romania's average gross monthly salary for each of the previous 6 months, as well as the required financial means for the relevant visa period.

Digital Nomad Visa Romania: Is working remotely enough?

Not necessarily. The documents submitted with the application must clearly demonstrate that the applicant can perform their professional activity remotely from Romania using information and communication technology.
There are also specific requirements concerning tax and criminal record documents, including applicable apostille, translation and legalization requirements. A document review before submission can therefore be particularly important when the employment documents do not expressly establish the possibility of working remotely from Romania.

Digital Nomad Visa Romania: How long can a digital nomad stay in Romania?

The Romanian long-stay visa is granted for 90 days. After entering Romania, the applicant may request an extension of the right of residence and obtain a Romanian residence permit. The first extension of temporary residence for digital nomads is granted for 6 months, provided that the applicable legal requirements are met. Further extensions may be available if the applicant continues to satisfy the conditions established by Romanian law.
